The image matches characteristics of Finny Scad, Megalapsis cordyla. On Australian east coast, there are previous occurrences southwards to Botany Bay (about 34 deg S). Bermagui is approximately 36 26 S, so a significant range extension if that is where the fish was collected (a straight line distance of about 280km). I ask about locality as the position displayed on the map is in the Atlantic Ocean (species is not known from the Atlantic), which I presume is a mistake. If the specimen was retained it would be useful to deposit it into a fish collection to validate the occurrence, e.g. CSIRO Australian National Fish Collection, Hobart or Australian Museum, Sydney or Museum Victoria, Melbourne, depending on what is easiest.
