What's been spotted lately around the country?

Zebrafish

Girella zebra

A screen capture from our baited underwater camera that we deploy each day for visiting students. This was seen swimming past beneath the Woodbridge Jetty. I have seen them there for a couple of years but never managed to get a photo until now.

About this species

Identified by its whitish body and broad vertical stripes (9-10), which are thicker at the top and taper toward the underbelly area (ventral region). They have small mouths and chisel like teeth. Juveniles are darker so it is more difficult to see the bands. Log this species if you spot it on the west, east and south coasts of TASMANIA. Read more…
