Assessing fish sensitivity to climate change

IMAS, 02 Feb 2015.

Redmap founder Gretta Pecl developed a method for rapidly assessing how sensitive to climate change our key commercial species are likely to be. In rapidly warming regions so much is changing - and fast - so we need quick methods to identify what species are most at risk in order to expend further research dollars wisely.

Associate Professor Pecl talks in this video about the unique technique to assess the climate change sensitivity of fish. This method has since been applied by other researchers in ocean warming hotspots like Canada and the US. Gretta is currently adapting it for application to the fisheries off Madagascar.

This is a Centre for Marine Socio-Ecology project: a collaboration between the University of Tasmania's Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies and CSIRO.
