After learning to dive at about age 30, I became very interested in southern Australian marine life. I joined the Reef Watch program first as a volunteer diver, and later as the project officer then coordinator for the program. I have also helped to train divers for the Reef Life Survey program. The diving with these programs and casual dive work for research institutions and government departments has provided me with the opportunity to undertake reef surveys throughout South Australia, and many on Australia’s south-east and south-west coastlines. I have also spent a lot of time underwater in Upper Spencer Gulf, on various environmental assessment and monitoring programs.
